Reflection
When STEM Girls Nation began brainstorming for a project we explored everything from diabetes prevention to creating green spaces. When we settled on sexual assault prevention we immediately felt a surge of energy and knew our hearts had found the right project. Through our events we have met so many who share our passion. It has been amazing to meet so many people, women and men, who want to be involved with our project. We've been inspired by so many young girls who have felt stronger and safer after our seminars.
We're also thrilled at the positive feedback we are getting about our Wellness Wristlet. Everyone wants to know when they can buy one! While the Wellness Wristlet is the most innovative part of our project, it is also the most complicated and hardest to accomplish within the allotted time frame. The coding of the wristlet is new to us and though we love what we are learning, it is a lot to accomplish within a very short amount of time. Although we won't be able to produce numerous bracelets before the GBLA deadline, we hope to continue creating the Wristlet prototype until it is polished enough to patent and manufacture.
The more we interact with members of our community, the more we realize how desperately this project was needed and is still needed. Though we are very proud with the number of women we are in contact with and teaching in seminars, we know there are so many more. There are so many who need a place to be heard, a community to support them, and a way to feel in control of their own lives. We hope GBLA is only the start and we can continue to reach those in need.
We do have three upcoming events. We are holding two community seminars and we have been invited to speak at the TedxYouth@WoodlandHills. We will put up pictures and videos of those events on their pages as soon as possible. Updates on our Wellness Wristlet will be posted weekly on its page.
